WHITENING
You are about
to use the best in-home whitening system available. Here are some instructions
and a few hints. Get ready to enjoy your new smile!
The amount of whitening that you obtain depends on 3 factors:
1. The length
of time each day that the tray is worn.
2. The number of days the tray is worn.
3. The susceptibility of your teeth to the whitening agent.
PROCEDURE:
1. Have impressions taken to create your custom fitted trays.
2. Floss and brush your teeth. Tissue health is necessary to avoid trauma.
3. Remove cap from preloaded syringe, squeeze whitening gel evenly onto
the front (lip) surfaces of your custom made trays.
4. Place the trays completely and firmly over the teeth.
5. With a clean finger, gently press the tray against the teeth on the
lip (front) side, making sure gel covers the entire front surface of all
the teeth being whitened. Pressing too firmly will push too much gel out
of the tray.
6. Gently wipe off any excess gel from edge of tray with a clean finger,
Q-tip, or toothbrush.
7. Remove trays in the morning, brush and rinse them and store in case.
8. Do not eat or smoke while trays are in your mouth.
9. Keep your whitening tubes in the refrigerator.
TREATMENT
REGIME
The trays
are usually worn at night from bedtime until awaking. Saliva flow and
mouth movement is decreased during sleep and prevents loss of gel from
tray. This gives the greatest amount of whitening for each hour worn.
The gel must be in contact with the tooth surface for at least 4 hours
to be effective. The initial whitening process can be anywhere from a
few days, up to (but no longer then) 14 days. The maintenance whitening
is usually done monthly for a few days up to a week.
Occasionally
people experience some increased sensitivity to cold during the process.
This usually subsides 1- 3 days after completion of treatment. You can
also alternate whitening gel with fluoride gel to reduce sensitivity.
